Wheaton, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team is in 11th-place after the first day of competition at the Pete Willson/Wheaton College (Ill.) Invitational Friday night. The Eagles have 47.0 team points while UW-Parkside leads with 79.0 points. The University of Mt. Union (Ohio) is in second-place (67.5) followed by UW-Whitewater in third (67.0), Olivet College (Mich.) in fourth (66.0) and the University of Indianpolis (Ind.) in fifth (65.0). A total of 31 teams are competing. Action concludes Saturday.

Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad captured the John Zuerlein Invitational at UW-Stout Friday night in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Eagles totaled a team score of 182.800 while UW-Stout was second at 179.075. Hamline University (Minn.) placed third (174.550) and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) was fourth (172.575). UW-L set single-season highs on the balance beam (45.575) and floor exercise (46.425) Friday night.

Madison, Wis. - Former University of Wisconsin-La Crosse badminton head coach Martha Stephens has been selected the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Badminton All-Time Coach that will be recognized in conjunction with the conference’s upcoming Centennial Celebration. Former standouts Marilyn Skrivseth and Janet Wigglesworth were also named the WIAC All-Time Badminton Team.

La Crosse, Wis. - The Maroon Platoon, the student support group for University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Athletics, will officially be launched Saturday, January 28. A kickoff event will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse. A special address to the students will be held at 2:30 p.m. as students will receive their Maroon Platoon t-shirts as well as punch cards for special discounts from local businesses.
