UW-La Crosse 92, Wisconsin Lutheran 68
La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse men's basketball team opened its 2009-10 regular season with a 92-68 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College Monday night in Mitchell Hall. It was also the opener for the Warriors.
Wisconsin Lutheran took an 11-4 lead with 16:23 left in the first half after a Ben Ziesemer three-point field goal, but UW-L went on a 28-12 run to lead 32-23 with 8:24 remaining.
Tony Mane had 11 points in the Eagles' run.
The Warriors came back to cut the lead to 38-36 with 2:34 left before the Eagles led 42-37 at halftime.
UW-L led 53-48 with 15:51 remaining when it went on a 16-0 run to lead 69-48 with 11:25 left. The Eagles hit four three-point field goals in the run, including two from Mane and one each from
Trevor Stratton and
Austin Scott. The Warriors could get no closer than 16 points the rest of the game.
Mane led UW-L with 27 points, finishing 11-of-18 from the field, including four-of-seven from three-point range. He was one-of-two at the free throw line. Mane also had three rebounds and three assists. Stratton added 20 points for the Eagles, going eight-of-13 from the field, including three-of-five from three-point range. He finished with four rebounds.
Jordan Rumpel set career-highs with 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists off the bench. He also had two steals and one block. Scott finished with 11 points, hitting three-of-five from three-point range.
Kurt Kincaid grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
UW-L shot 61.0% from the field, including 69.0% (20-of-29) in the second half. The Eagles were 11-of-23 (47.8%) from three-point range, including seven-of-10 (70.0%) in the final 20 minutes. The team was nine-of-16 (56.3%) at the line.
Kyle Madson led Wisconsin Lutheran with 18 points while Ziesemer finished with 12. Madson was six-of-11 from the field, including one-of-four from three-point range, and five-of-six at the free throw line. Ziesemer hit three-of-seven from three-point range.
The Warriors shot 35.6% from the field, including 23.8% (five-of-21) from three-point range. Wisconsin Lutheran was 21-of-31 (67.7%) at the line.
UW-L outrebounded Wisconsin Lutheran, 45-29.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 18 at St. Mary's (Minn.) University at 7:30 p.m.
