UW-L Earns Dual Win over UW-Oshkosh

The UW-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team earned a 162-72 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles are now 1-0 on the season.

Matthew Diehl won three individual events Saturday for UW-L, including the 100 (48.76) and 200 (1:50.62) freestyle and 200 breaststroke (2:18.92).

Five other swimmers captured individual titles for the Eagles. Justin Dembski won the 1,000 freestyle (10:10.12) while finishing second in the 200 freestyle (1:51.01) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:09.65).  Kevin Misener won the 200 backstroke (2:03.56) while Colin Schmidt took the 500 freestyle (5:10.30). Schmidt was also third in the 200 freestyle (1:51.79). Benjamin Knutson  won the 50 freestyle (22.49) and was second in the 100 freestyle (50.90) while Kurt Zehel earned a win in the 200 butterfly (2:08.16) and finished second in the 200 I.M. (2:10.52).

The Eagles' 400 medley relay of Misener, Bill Shuster, Michael Beilman and Ryan Schmidt won Saturday (3:49.36). Shuster was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.55), Beilman third in the 100 freestyle (51.82) and Schmidt second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:57.73).

Dembski, Ryan Schmidt, Andrew Rasmussen and Corey Mukai  were second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.80).

Other top finishes included Kyle Bennwitz placing third in the 500 (5:38.40) and 1,000 (11:27.94) freestyle while Nathanial Hoffman was second in the 50 freestyle (23.81). Joel Knuesel finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:12.77), Jared Krueger was second in the 500 freestyle (5:20.11) and Peter Szotkowski placed third in the 200 I.M. (2:12.72).

In diving, Trey Edgerle placed second in the 1-meter competition (234.35 points) and Casey Chamberlain finished third in the 3-meter (258.75).

UW-L returns to action Friday, Dec. 4 at the UW-River Falls Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
