UW-L Defeats UW-Oshkosh in Dual Action

The UW-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team earned a 152-84 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles are now 1-0 on the season.

UW-L's Katelyn Hartung and Danielle Ellingson both won two events Saturday. Hartung took first in the 100 (54.08) and 1,000 (11:03.83) freestyle while Ellingson captured the 200 I.M. (2:16.08) and 200 backstroke (2:17.00).

Three other swimmers won individual titles for the Eagles. Chelsea Hoff won the 200 freestyle (1:57.47), Kasey Madden the 50 freestyle (25.66) and Brittany Erb the 200 breaststroke (2:40.42).

UW-L captured the 400 medley relay (4:07.76) with a team of Jennifer Bryson, Brianna Peyer, Danya Johnson and Madden.

The Eagles' swept the diving competition Saturday as Rachel LaValley won the 1-meter (254.10 points) and Shannon Doyle the three-meter (261.30). LaValley was also third in the 3-meter (236.00) while Doyle was second in the 1-meter competition (214.50). Samantha Koch was second in the 3-meter (236.15) and third in the 1-meter (211.25).

Other top swimming finishes for the Eagles included Emily Ordway placing second in the 500 (5:51.95) and 1,000 (11:40.77) freestyle while Peyer finished second (25.75) and Hannah Mueller third (26.44) in the 50 freestyle. Rachel Howard finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.92) and Anna Kaye third in the 1,000 freestyle (11:57.08).

Bryson placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:20.60) for UW-L. Carissa Paasch finished second (2:26.50) and Caryn Herrick third (2:27.11) i nthe 200 I.M. while Sarah Albertson was second (2:31.67) and Sarah Kisolek third (2:32.35) in the 200 butterfly.

UW-L returns to action Friday, Dec. 4 at the UW-River Falls Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
