Northfield Invitational Results
Northfield, Minn. - The UW-La Crosse men's swimming and diving team opened its 2009-10 season at the St. Olaf College Northfield Invitational Saturday afternoon. No team scores were recorded.
The Eagles'
Justin Dembski and
Bill Shuster both captured individual event titles Saturday. Dembski won the 1,650 freestyle (17:18.94) while Shuster took the 200 breaststroke (2:23.40). Dembski was also second in the 400 I.M. (4:36.32) while Shuster finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.28) and fourth in the 400 I.M. (4:48.90).
In diving, UW-L's
Trey Edgerle won the one-meter competition (401.20 points) and finished second in the three-meter (411.90).
Casey Chamberlain finished fourth in the three-meter diving (393.20).
UW-L's
Spencer Loch,
Kevin Misener and
Matthew Diehl each had three top finishes. Loch was second in the 100 freestyle (48.70) and 100 backstroke (56.58) while placing third in the 200 I.M. (2:05.94). Misener finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.51), third in the 500 freestyle (5:08.98) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (56.80).
Diehl was second in the 200 I.M. (2:05.56) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.27) and third in the 100 freestyle (49.75).
The Eagles'
Casey Borden was third in the 100 (56.73) and 200 (2:08.08) backstroke while
Kurt Zehel finished third in the 200 butterfly (2:12.15) and 400 I.M. (4:47.51).
Other third-place finishes for UW-L included
Jared Krueger in the 200 freestyle (1:53.32),
Andrew Rasmussen in the 100 butterfly (56.27) and
Ryan Schmidt in the 1,650 freestyle (18:30.95). Fourth-place results included
Benjamin Knutson in the 100 freestyle (50.14),
Jordan Hanrahan in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.08) and
Joel Knuesel in the 100 butterfly (56.32).
The Eagles won the 200 mixed freestyle relay (1:31.97) and placed second in the 200 medley relay (1:39.02).
UW-L returns to action Saturday, Nov. 21 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
