The UW-La Crosse women's swimming and diving team opened its 2009-10 season at the St. Olaf College Northfield Invitational Saturday afternoon. No team scores were recorded.

The Eagles' Chelsea Hoff captured three individual events Saturday, winning the 50 (24.11) and 100 (53.16) freestyle as well as the 100 backstroke (58.38).

Dayna Johnson had a pair of first-place finishes and a second-place result. She won the 200 butterfly (2:18.79) and 200 breaststroke (2:34.66) while placing second in the 400 I.M. (4:59.21).

Four other swimmers earned wins for UW-L Saturday. Katelyn Hartung captured the 200 freestyle (1:59.85), Abby Diehl the 500 freestyle (5:26.14), Brittany Erb the 100 breaststroke (1:11.16) and Taylor Smith the 100 butterfly (1:01.44). Hartung was also second in the 100 (54.47) and 500 (5:27.22) freestyle while Diehl finished second in the 200 (2:01.53) and third in the 100 (55.16) freestyle. Erb was second in the 200 I.M. (2:22.31) and 200 breaststroke (2:40.14) while Smith finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:24.74).

UW-L also won the 200 medley relay (1:51.84) and the mixed 200 freestyle relay (1:31.97).

In diving, the Eagles' Rachel La Valley and Shannon Doyle swept the one and three-meter competitions. La Valley took the one-meter diving (413.35 points) while Doyle captured the three-meter (428.25). La Valley was also second in the three-meter (419.10) and Doyle was second in the one-meter (400.15).

UW-L's Samantha Koch finished third in the one-meter diving competition (386.05) and fourth in the three-meter (345.75).

The Eagles' Danielle Ellingson and Kasey Madden each had three top-four finishes Saturday afternoon. Ellingson was third in the 100 butterfly (1:03.65) and 1,650 freestyle (19:27.80) while placing fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.76). Madden finished second in the 50 freestyle (25.94) and 100 butterfly (1:03.16) and tied for fourth in the 100 freestyle (57.47).

Jennifer Bryson was third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.10) and 400 I.M. (5:05.36) while Carissa Paasch finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.07) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.79). UW-L's Sarah Kisiolek placed fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:31.03) and 400 I.M. (5:11.59) while Shannon Carlin was third in the 200 I.M. (2:24.59) and fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:44.27).

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Nov. 21 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
