Danielle Frank each scored in double figures as the UW-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 73-52 victory over Alverno College (Wis.) Tuesday night in Mitchell Hall in the UW-L Holiday Classic. The Eagles improve to 8-4 on the season while the Inferno fall to 3-7.
Lang had a game-high 16 points for the Eagles, finishing seven-of-13 from the field, including two-of-four from three-point range. She also had six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Churchill and Frank both recorded double-doubles in Tuesday's win. Churchill finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and three assists while Frank had 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She also had three blocks.
Churchill was six-of-nine from the field and hit all three of her free throw attempts while Frank totaled four-of-eight from the field and two-of-two at the line.
The game was tied 13-13 with 10:26 left in the first half when UW-L went on a 28-3 run to end the first half and lead 41-16. The Eagles shot 45.5% (15-of-33) from the field in the first half while the Inferno shot 21.9% (seven-of-32).
UW-L led by as many as 38 points in the second half as Alverno could get no closer than 20 points.
The Eagles shot 45.3% from the field for the game, including 35.3% (six-of-17) from three-point range. UW-L was nine-of-17 (52.9%) at the free throw line.
Gabby Allen led Alverno College with 15 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Alicia Kontowski had 13 points for the Inferno while Shataya McComb finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Alverno shot 32.3% from the field, including 15.4% (two-of-13) from three-point range, and 55.6% (10-of-18) at the line.
In the other game Tuesday in the Holiday Classic, the University of Dubuque (Iowa) earned a 69-50 win over UW-Superior.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 30 hosting Dubuque (Iowa) at 5:05 p.m. Alverno will face UW-Superior at 3:05 p.m.
