UW-L Competes at UW-River Falls Invite

Minneapolis, Minn. - The UW-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team completed action at the UW-River Falls Invitational Saturday night at the University of Minnesota. The competition was split into two divisions. In the Red Division, the Eagles finished fifth with 224.0 team points while in the White Division, UW-L was sixth overall with 226.0 points.

In action in the UW-River Falls White Division, Chelsea Hoff won the 50 freestyle (23.92) while placing third in the 100 freestyle (52.40) and 100 backstroke (59.77).

Danielle Ellingson finished fourth in the 400 I.M. (4:48.01) and 16th in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.79) while Dayna Johnson placed eighth in the 400 I.M. (4:58.21) and 11th in the 200 butterfly (2:18.96).

The Eagles' Jennifer Bryson was 11th in the 400 I.M. (5:00.67) and Katelyn Hartung 13th in the 100 freestyle (54.24).

UW-L had four relays place in the top-five this weekend. The 400 freestyle relay of Hartung, Ellingson, Kasey Madden and Abby Diehl was fourth overall (3:37.93). The Eagles' 200 freestyle relay of Hoff, Brianna Peyer, Madden and Hartung were fifth (1:40.11). The 200 and 400 medley relays also finished fifth. The 200 medley relay of Hoff, Peyer, Madden and Hartung went 1:50.43 while the 400 medley relay of Hoff, Peyer, Ellingson and Diehl finished with a time of 4:04.20.

In the Red Division, Taylor Smith finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.42) and 12th in the 200 butterfly (2:23.93). UW-L's Carissa Paasch placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.92) and seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.42) while Shannon Carlin finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.96) and 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.93).

Hannah Mueller was eighth in the 50 freestyle (25.55) while Brittany Erb finished 11th (2:38.24) and Emily Schweitz 16th (2:42.68) in the 200 breaststroke.

In the 1,650 freestyle, Rachel Howard was 13th (19:24.35), Anna Kaye 21st (20:05.31) and Mariah Schisler 26th (20:34.20).

Colleen Tierney was 14th in the 200 backstroke (2:21.83) and Sarah Kisiolek 15th in the 400 I.M. (5:03.50).

UW-L had three relays in the top-eight in the Red Division. The 200 medley relay of Howard, Erb, Smith and Mueller were fifth (1:55.23); the 400 freestyle relay of Howard, Lauren Kaiser, Mueller and Laura Reifenberg finished seventh (3:45.66) and the 400 medley relay of Tierney, Carlin, Smith and Mueller placed eighth (4:17.96).

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Dec. 12 at UW-Eau Claire at 1 p.m.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
