UW-L Ranked in Top-20 in Two Polls

Johnson Earns National Honor

La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse football team (3-0) has moved up to 17th on this week's D3football.com Top-25 Poll and 16th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top-25 Poll. The Eagles were 19th on D3football.com and 21st in the coaches' poll last week.

Individually, UW-L senior linebacker Aaron Johnson of Wisconsin Dells (H.S.) has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after his performance in the Eagles' 48-0 victory over NCAA Division II Missouri University of Science & Technology Sept. 26.

Johnson had six solo tackles, including three for loss against the Miners. He also had one sack. Johnson and UW-L's defense recorded its first shutout since 2007.

UW-L has 178 points in this week's D3football.com Top-25 Poll. Mt. Union College (Ohio) is ranked first with 623 points while UW-Whitewater is second with 600 and Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) third with 576. Mt. Union received 23 first-place votes while UW-Whitewater received two. Wheaton (Ill.) is fourth (524 points) followed by Wesley (Del.) is fifth (523). St. John's, Minn. is sixth (482) followed by Washington & Jefferson, Pa. (396), Linfield, Ore. (380), Case Western Reserve, Ohio (378) and Central, Iowa (377) to round-out the top-10. UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point are receiving votes.

UW-L has 379 points in the AFCA Top-25 Poll while Mt. Union (Ohio) is ranked first with 999 points. UW-Whitewater (958), Mary Hardin-Baylor, Texas (916), Wheaton, Ill. (861) and Wesley, Pa. (843) round-out the top-five. Mt. Union received 39 first-place votes in this week's AFCA Poll while UW-Whitewater received one. St. John's, Minn. (790) is sixth in the rankings followed by Washington & Jefferson, Pa. (732), Central, Iowa (621), Linfield, Ore. (618) and Wabash, Ind. (612). UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout are receiving votes in the AFCA Poll.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3 hosting UW-Oshkosh in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener for both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
