The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team is in second-place after the first day of competition at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational. The Eagles have 449 team points while UW-Stevens Point leads with 481. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) is third with 348.

UW-Whitewater is in fourth-place (229) folowed by Minnesota State University, Mankato (214) and UW-Eau Claire (178).

In Friday's action, Matt Diehl, Kevin Misener and Spencer Loch all captured individual titles for UW-L. Diehl won the 200 I.M. (2:01.05), Misener the 100 backstroke (54.50) and Loch the 100 freestyle (47.18).

Diehl was also third in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.08) and Loch fifth in the 100 backstroke (55.47). Casey Borden finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.29).

The Eagles' Justin Dembski was third in the 500 freestyle (4:50.23) and Kurt Zehel placed third in the 200 butterfly (2:05.19).

Trey Edgerle finished second (364.55 points) and Patrick Schulze third (343.25) in the one-meter diving competition.

In the relay events, the Eagles captured the 800 freestyle (7:14.30) and placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:26.20) and 400 medley (3:34.34).

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
