Augsburg College (Minn.) 20, UW-La Crosse 13
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team fell 20-13 to top-ranked Augsburg College (Minn.) Sunday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles are now 13-3 on the season while Auggies improve to 10-0. Augsburg leads the all-time series, 6-1, with UW-L.
UW-L took a 3-0 lead after the 125-pound match as
Albie McKinney won by decision (5-4) over Augsburg's Josh Roberts.
The Eagles led 6-0 as top-ranked
Bebeto Yewah won by decision (14-12 in overtime) over sixth-ranked Paul Bjorkstrand at 133-pounds. Yewah scored a two-point takedown :26 into the overtime session.
Augsburg came back to cut the dual to 6-3 as Cody Hansen earned a win by decision (1-0) over
Alex Dahl at 141-pounds. After there was no scoring in the first two periods, Hansen scored the only one point of the match on an escape with :12 remaining in the third period.
Third-ranked
Matt Mauseth gave the Eagles a 9-3 lead as he earned a win by decision (12-5) over Lucas Murray at 149-pounds.
Augsburg's Jason Adams, ranked fifth in the country at 157-pounds, improved to 30-2 on the season with a win by major decision (14-4) over UW-L's
Ryan Farwell to cut the deficit to 9-7.
The Auggies take their first lead of the day as Orlando Ponce won by decision (9-4) over the Eagles'
Cory Ferguson at 165-pounds. Ponce is currently ranked sixth and Ferguson eighth in NCAA Division III. It is Ferguson's second loss of the season (15-2).
In a match-up of top-ranked wrestlers at 174-pounds, Augsburg's Zach Molitor earned a win by decision (6-4) over UW-L's
Mike Schmitz. Molitor, who improved to 17-3 on the season, is ranked third while Schmitz, now 18-5, is second in the country.
Augsburg took a 16-9 lead after Brad Baus earned a win by decision (6-2) over
Mitch Artist at 184-pounds. Artist was ahead 2-1 after a reversal in the third period, but Baus got a reversal of his own and three near fall points in the final :10 of the match to pick up the victory.
The Auggies clinched the dual as top-ranked Jared Massey earned a win by major decision (14-2) over the Eagles'
John Poppie at 197-pounds. Massey is now 16-0 on the year.

Dan Laurent finished the dual with a win by major decision (10-2) for UW-L over Augsburg's Andy Witzel at 285-pounds.
UW-L returns to action Friday, Jan. 29 at the Pete Willson/Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational starting at 2 p.m.
