Dembski Wins Two Events in Dual Loss at UW-Stevens Point

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team fell 132-111 at UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon in WIAC dual action. The Eagles' Justin Dembski, Matthew Diehl and Kevin Misener captured swimming titles while Trey Edgerle took the three-meter diving competition.

Dembski won 500 (4:53.07) and 1,000 (10:04.42) freestyle while Diehl captured the 200 I.M. (2:00.20) and Misener the 200 backstroke (1:58.67). Misener was also scond in the 200 freestyle (1:46.27). Edgerle took the three-meter diving (233.25 points). He also placed fourth in the one-meter (185.95).

UW-L also won the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Diehl, Joel Knuesel, Casey Borden and Spencer Loch (3:11.24). The Eagles' 400 medley relay of Misener, Diehl, Knuesel and Loch were second (3:33.52).

Other top finishes in the swimming events included Ryan Schmidt placing second in the 500 freestyle (5:02.70) and fourth in the 1,000 freestyle (10:35.08). Kurt Zehel was second in the 200 butterfly (2:05.62) while Loch was second in the 100 freestyle (47.82).

Colin Schmidt finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:48.84) and Borden was third in the 200 backstroke (2:03.66). Fourth-place finishers included Knuesel in the 50 freestyle (22.49), Andrew Rasmussen in the 200 butterfly (2:11.56), Jared Krueger in the 100 freestyle (49.81) and Bill Shuster in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.67).

In diving, Casey Chamberlain was second in the three-meter (218.40 points) and third in the one-meter (201.00) while Patrick Schulze finished second in the one-meter (202.40) and fourth in the three-meter (205.35).

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Feb. 6 hosting UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.

UW-L’s athletic teams sport a contemporary Eagle in the L and caricature created in 1989. Dave Christianson, a 1973 art major graduate, penned the images after the UW-L men’s teams took the Eagles moniker. Women’s teams started sporting the Eagles moniker in November 1990.
