UW-L Wins Seven Matches in Victory over UW-Whitewater

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned a 28-10 victory over UW-Whitewater Saturday night in the consolation bracket of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/Cliff Keen National Duals in the University of Northern Iowa UNI-Dome. The Eagles are now 9-2 on the season and will face Cornell College (Iowa) Sunday, Jan. 10 at 9 a.m.

UW-L, ranked first in NCAA Division III, went 2-1 in Saturday's action. The Eagles opened with a 32-6 victory over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) before falling 22-15 to Delaware Valley College (Pa.).

UW-L won seven of 10 matches in its win over UW-Whitewater Saturday night. The Eagles' Albie McKinney won by injury default over Max Oldenburg at 125-pounds to give UW-La Crosse a 6-0 lead.

Bebeto Yewah, ranked first in the country at 133-pounds, made it 9-0 with a win by decision (11-5) over Kyle Wachholder.

The Warhawks cut the lead to 9-3 as top-ranked Austin Bautista defeated Alex Dahl by decision (3-2) at 141-pounds. The Eagles then captured the next four duals to take a 25-3 lead. Matt Mauseth won by fall (1:11) against Matthew Schuck at 149-pounds; Ryan Farwell won by decision (4-2) over Corey Schmidt at 157; Cory Ferguson won by technical fall over Jake D'Acquisto at 165 and Grant Miller won by decision (10-3) over Reid Dickerson at 174.

Mauseth is currently ranked fourth in NCAA III while Ferguson is ninth.

UW-Whitewater's David Casper won by major decision (10-2) over Brenden Faust at 184-pounds and Adam Latella won by decision (15-10) over John Poppie at 197 to make it 25-10.

The Eagles' Dan Laurent, ranked first in the nation at 285-pounds, finished the dual with a win by decision (3-2) over James Zarate.
