WIAC Championships - Thursday's Results

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team is in second-place after the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Eagles have 262 team points while UW-Stevens Point leads with 276.

UW-Eau Claire is third (162) followed by UW-Whitewater (131), UW-Oshkosh (100) and UW-River Falls (28).

In Thursday's action, Justin Dembski, Matthew Diehl and Spencer Loch won individual conference titles. Dembski took the 500 freestyle (4:40.11) while Diehl captured the 200 I.M. (1:52.87) and Loch won the 50 freestyle (20.61). Diehl and Loch both met NCAA Division III "B" qualifying status with their performances. 

UW-L also took the 200 freestyle relay with Diehl, Benjamin Knutson, Joel Knuesel and Loch. The relay set a WIAC record and met national "B" qualifying status with a time of 1:22.41.

Kevin Misener was second in the 500 freestyle (4:41.26) while Knuesel placed second (21.34) and Knutson eighth (21.95) in the 50 freestyle. The Eagles' Casey Borden was sixth in the 200 I.M. (2:00.33).

The Eagles' 400 medley relay of Misener, Diehl, Knuesel and Loch finished second with an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 3:23.85.

In the three-meter diving, Casey Chamberlain was third (378.25), Trey Edgerle fifth (346.60) and Patrick Schulze seventh (334.10).

Action continues Friday at the University of Minnesota.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
