UW-L Second After First Day of WIAC Championships

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team is in second-place after the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Eagles have 243 team points while UW-Stevens Point leads with 274.

UW-Eau Claire is in third-place (241.5 points) followed by UW-Whitewater (99.5), UW-Oshkosh (76) and UW-River Falls (60).

In Thursday's action, the Eagles' Chelsea Hoff captured the 50 freestyle (23.13) and Rachel LaValley won the one-meter diving competition (393.50 points). Hoff's time met NCAA Division III "A" qualifying status.

UW-L's 200 freestyle relay of Hoff, Brianna Peyer, Abby Diehl and Katelyn Hartung also captured the conference title with an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 1:34.59. The Eagles' 400 medley relay of Hoff, Peyer, Taylor Smith and Diehl was second with also a "B" qualifying time of 3:53.88.

The Eagles' Shannon Doyle placed third (379.55 points) and Samantha Koch fourth (369.66) in the one-meter diving competition.

Danielle Ellingson was third (2:09.60), Dayna Johnson fifth (2:11.97) and Elisabeth Misener eighth (2:13.37) in the 200 I.M.

In the 500 freestyle, Hartung finished fourth (5:13.23) and Diehl sixth (5:19.43). The Eagles' Peyer was sixth in the 50 freestyle (24.43).

Action continues Friday at the University of Minnesota.
