Hoff and Hartung Win Titles at WIAC Championships

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team remains in second-place after the second day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships Friday night at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Eagles have 511 team points while UW-Stevens Point leads with 585.

UW-Eau Claire is third (503.5) followed by UW-Whitewater (248), UW-Oshkosh (151) and UW-River Falls (124).

In Friday's action, Chelsea Hoff broke her own conference record in the 100 backstroke with a first-place time of 55.56. She also met the NCAA Division III "A" qualifying status with her time.

The Eagles' Katelyn Hartung won the 200 freestyle Friday with a "B" qualifying time of 1:53.03.

UW-L's 200 medley relay took first with a time of 1:45.71. It was also met national "B" qualification.

Other top finishes included Danielle Ellingson placing second in the 400 I.M. (4:34.87) while Taylor Smith was third (58.83), Dayna Johnson sixth (59.34) and Colleen Tierney seventh (1:00.47) in the 100 butterfly. Ellingson's time met the national "B" qualifying standards.

Brianna Peyer was fourth (1:07.30), Emily Schweitz sixth (1:08.80) and Brittany Erb seventh (1:10.06) in the 100 breaststroke while Abby Diehl finished fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:56.57) and Elisabeth Misener was sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.77). Peyer also met the NCAA "B" qualifying time.

The Eagles' 800 freestyle relay was second with a "B" qualifying time of 7:45.73.

In a timed 100 butterfly trial, Johnson met NCAA "B" qualifying standards with a time of 58.39.

Action concludes Saturday at the University of Minnesota.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
