Five Starters Score in Double Figures in Win over UW-River Falls

All five starters scored in doubles figures as the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 76-67 victory over UW-River Falls Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 17-7 overall and 9-6 in the WIAC while the Falcons drop to 17-6 overall and 9-6 in the conference. UW-L swept the regular-season series with Wednesday's win, also earning a 67-52 win Jan. 13 in River Falls.

With the win, UW-L moves into a third-place tie in the WIAC with UW-Stout and UW-River Falls.

Danielle Frank recorded her 12th double-double of the season, including fifth straight, with 15 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday. She also had two blocks and two assists. Frank was six-of-eight from the field and hit all three of her free throw attempts. Dana Churchill also scored 15 points, going five-of-eight from the field and five-of-eight at the line. Lindsey Litrenta finished with 12 points, Melissa Lang 11 and Taylor Larson 10. Litrenta added a game-high six assists.

UW-River Falls took its only lead of the game at 10-9 with 16:05 left in the first half after Tiffany Gregorich's layup. UW-L led 16-15 with 11:53 remaining when it went on a 14-4 run to lead 30-19. The Eagles led by as many as 12 in the first half before leading 37-27 at halftime.

UW-L led 42-30 with 16:29 remaining in the game, but went on an 8-2 run to lead 50-32. The Falcons cut the lead to 56-47 with 9:08 left, but the Eagles scored the next six points to take a 15-point lead. UW-River Falls later cut the deficit to 67-58 with 4:39 remaining after a Katie Theisen three-pointer. Frank scored the game's next four points and the Falcons could get no closer than nine points the rest of the game.

UW-L shot 51.0% from the field, including 55.0% (11-of-20) in the second half. The Eagles shot 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range and 69.0% (20-of-29) at the free throw line.

Gregorich led UW-River Falls with 14 points while Theisen finished with 12 and Maranda Dohrn 10. Gregorich also finished with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Brittany Gregorich finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Falcons shot 37.5% from the field, including 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range, and 50.0% (seven-of-14) at the line.

UW-L wraps up its regular season Saturday, Feb. 20 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 3:05 p.m. on Senior Day.
