UW-La Crosse 66, UW-Superior 44
Superior, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team had four players in double figures as it earned an 66-44 victory at UW-Superior Saturday afternoon in Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 15-7 overall and 7-6 in the WIAC while the Yellowjackets fall to 7-14 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
It is UW-L's seventh consecutive victory over UW-Superior.
Danielle Frank led UW-L with 15 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks while
Dana Churchill and
Melissa Lang each finished with 14 points.
Stacie Van Handel added 10 points.
UW-L led 10-2 with 15:49 remaining and 18-10 with 9:46 left. UW-Superior used a 10-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 20-18 with 5:34 remaining after a Hailey Hart three-point field goal. The Eagles came right back and went on a 12-5 run to finish the half to lead 30-25.
The Eagles opened the second half on an 18-5 run to lead 48-30 with 10:52 remaining. The Yellowjackets could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the contest.
Along with four players in double figures, UW-L's
Lindsey Litrenta had a game-high seven assists. The Eagles shot 40.7% from the field, including 24.0% (six-of-25) from three-point range, and 75.0% (12-of-16) at the free throw line.
Hart led UW-Superior with 14 points while Bri Davis had 12. Kelsey Thingvold led the team with eight rebounds. The Yellowjackets shot 32.1% from the field, including 27.8% (five-of-18) from three-point range, and 42.9% (three-of-seven) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 10 at UW-Oshkosh at 7:05 p.m.
