UW-L Defeats UW-Whitewater on Senior Day

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC with a 132-56 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall on Senior Day.

The Eagles' Rachel LaValley and Shannon Doyle swept the diving competition Saturday. LaValley took the one-meter (242.60 points) while Doyle won the three-meter (251.10). LaValley was also second in the three-meter (235.85) while Doyle was third in the one-meter (210.35). UW-L's Samantha Koch finished second in the one-meter (225.85) and third in the three-meter (200.80).

UW-L also swept the relays. The 200 medley relay of Jennifer Bryson, Brittany Erb, Danielle Ellingson and Abby Diehl won (1:40.43) while the 200 freestyle relay of Hannah Mueller, Laura Reifenberg, Lauren Kaiser and Evan Clemens also took first (1:41.33).

Individually, Katharine Mickschl, Colleen Tierney, Megan Herrick and Eva Clemens won events. Mickschl took the 200 freestyle (2:04.56), Tierney the 200 I.M. (2:21.70), Herrick the 100 butterfly (1:05.68) and Clemens the 100 freestyle (55.63).

Kelsie Hopfensperger placed second (2:07.90) and Mariah Schisler third (2:07.94) in the 200 freestyle for UW-L while Reifenberg was second in the 50 freestyle (26.24). Kaiser finished second in the 100 freestyle (55.72).

The Eagles' Rebecca Pruitt finished second (2:26.48) and Carissa Paasch was third (2:26.49) in the 200 I.M. while Shannon Carlin was second (1:05.82) and Ashlee Gordon third (1:06.40) in the 100 butterfly.

UW-L returns to action Thursday, Feb. 11 at the WIAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. Action begins at 10 a.m.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
