Men's Tennis Sweeps Duals

Moline, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's tennis team swept three duals over the weekend at the Quad City Tennis Club. With victories over Wabash College (Ind.), Augustana College (Ill.) and St. Ambrose University (Iowa), the Eagles are now 3-1 on the season.

In a 6-3 win over Wabash Feb. 6, Joey Van Lieshout (No. 1), Nick Piotrowski (No. 2), Nathan Fekete (No. 3) and Steven Quiring (No. 4) recorded victories in singles play.

The Eagles took two of three doubles matches. Van Lieshout/Piotrowski (No. 1) and Fekete/Quiring (No. 2) both earned wins.

UW-L also earned a 6-3 victory over Augustana Feb. 6. The team took four of six singles matches with Piotrowski (No. 1), Fekete (No. 3), Quiring (No. 4) and Paul Vickers (No. 5) claimed wins. Van Lieshout/Piotrowski (No. 1) and Fekete/Quiring (No. 2) picked up doubles victories.

In a 7-2 victory over St. Ambrose Feb. 7, Piotrowski (No. 2), Fekete (No. 3), Quiring (No. 4) and Vickers (No. 5) earned singles wins.

The Eagles swept the three doubles matches with Van Lieshout/Piotrowski (No. 1), Fekete/Quiring (No. 2) and Taylor Schliewe/Sam Talarczyk (No. 3) winning.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Feb. 13 playing Coe College (Iowa) at 9 a.m. and Monmouth College (Ill.) at 1 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

UW-L’s athletic teams sport a contemporary Eagle in the L and caricature created in 1989. Dave Christianson, a 1973 art major graduate, penned the images after the UW-L men’s teams took the Eagles moniker. Women’s teams started sporting the Eagles moniker in November 1990.
