Wagner Earns National Honor

New Orleans, La. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Katie Wagner has been selected the 2010 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Women's Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year as voted by the nation's coaches.

The Eagles won their fourth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championship Feb. 27 at UW-Platteville. Wagner's athletes scored 61.5 points of the team's 166.5 total.

In her first season as the head assistant coach at UW-L, Wagner has qualified a high jumper, long jumper, triple jumper and pentathlete for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships March 12-13 in Greencastle, Indiana.

She competed for UW-L's track & field team for four years, winning the 2006 WIAC pentathlon while finishing third in 2004 and 2005 and fourth in 2003. Wagner captured the 2006 conference heptathlon and was 13th at the NCAA III Championships. She was third in the conference heptathlon in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
 
The USTFCCA awards will be presented at a banquet March 11 in Greencastle.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
