Hoff Places Fifth in Freestyle; Eagles Tied for Seventh

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team is tied for seventh-place after the first day of competition at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Eagles have 28.0 team points while Emory University (Ga.) leads with 135.0. Denison University (Ohio) is second (102.0) followed by Williams College (Mass.) in third (81.0), Kenyon College (Ohio) fourth (70.0) and Amherst College (Mass.) fifth (41.0). A total of 28 teams scored points Wednesday.

UW-L's Chelsea Hoff earned NCAA Division III All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (23.26) Wednesday night. It is her fifth individual All-America recognition, placing ninth in the 50 freestyle in 2008 and fifth in 2009. Hoff finished second in the 100 backstroke in 2008 and sixth last season. She will compete in the 100 backstroke (Friday) and 100 freestyle (Saturday) later this week.

The Eagles' 200 medley relay of Hoff, Brianna Peyer, Taylor Smith and Katelyn Hartung earned honorable mention All-America awards Wednesday after a 10th-place finish (1:46.37). Hoff now has 14 career All-America honors while Peyer has nine and Hartung five. Taylor earned her first career All-America accolade with Wednesday's finish in the 200 medley relay.

Danielle Ellingson competed in the 200 I.M. Wednesday, finishing 34th (2:10.90) in the preliminaries.
