Relay Places Third; LaValley Earns All-America Honors

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team is in eighth-place after the second day of competition at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Eagles have 65.0 team points while Emory University (Ga.) leads with 297.0. Denison University (Ohio) is second (251.0) followed by Williams College (Mass.) in third (206.0), Kenyon College (Ohio) fourth (159.0) and Claremont Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) fifth (99.0). A total of 43 teams have scored points.

UW-L's 200 freestyle relay of Chelsea Hoff, Brianna Peyer, Abby Diehl and Katelyn Hartung placed third (1:34.80) Thursday to earn NCAA Division III All-America honors.

It is the 15th career All-America award for Hoff, who placed fifth in the 50 freestyle (23.26) Wednesday. She has five individual All-America recognitions and 10 relay awards. Peyer has now picked up 10 NCAA Division III All-America honors while Hartung earned her sixth award. Diehl earned her first career All-America accolade with Thursday's finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Eagles' Rachel LaValley earned individual All-America honors Thursday night after a 12th-place finish in the 1-meter diving competition (385.00 points). LaValley, who will compete in the 3-meter diving Saturday, March 20, now has three career All-America awards. She was 13th in the 3-meter and 15th in the 1-meter competitions in 2009.

In preliminary action Thursday, Hartung finished 31st in the 200 freestyle (1:54.25) while Dayna Johnson was 44th in the 100 butterfly (1:00.22).

UW-L's 400 medley relay of Hoff, Danielle Ellingson, Johnson and Hartung were disqualified in the preliminaries.

UW-L’s athletic teams sport a contemporary Eagle in the L and caricature created in 1989. Dave Christianson, a 1973 art major graduate, penned the images after the UW-L men’s teams took the Eagles moniker. Women’s teams started sporting the Eagles moniker in November 1990.
