Hoff Places Second in Backstroke; UW-L in Eighth-Place

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team remains in eighth-place after the third day of competition at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Eagles have 84.0 team points while Emory University (Ga.) leads with 371.5. Denison University (Ohio) is second (346.0) followed by Williams College (Mass.) in third (297.0), Kenyon College (Ohio) fourth (224.0) and Claremont Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) fifth (144.0). A total of 49 teams have scored points.

UW-L's Chelsea Hoff earned her 16th career All-America award Friday, finishing second in the 100 backstroke (55.98). She now has six career All-America honors individually, placing fifth in the 50 freestyle (23.26) Wednesday. Hoff was ninth in the 50 freestyle in 2008 and fifth in 2009 and finished second in the 100 backstroke in 2008 and sixth last season.

The Eagles' 800 freestyle relay of Abby Diehl, Danielle Ellingson, Dayna Johnson and Katelyn Hartung picked up NCAA Division III Honorable Mention All-America honors Friday with a 16th-place finish (7:49.65). 

Hartung earned her seventh NCAA Division III All-America honor Friday while Ellingson now has five. Diehl has two All-America accolades while Johnson earned her first career award with Friday's finish in the 800 freestyle relay.

In preliminaries Friday, Ellingson placed 19th (1:06.10) and Brianna Peyer 32nd (1:07.78) in the 100 breaststroke.

UW-L placed seventh in the 2009-10 NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.  It ties the best finish in school history.  The Eagles are one of six institutions in NCAA Division III history to finish in the top-20 all 15 years of the Sports Directors' Cup.
