La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team will compete in the 2010 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships Friday and Saturday, March 26-27. Springfield College (Mass.) will serve as host of the meet.
The team and all-around competition will be held Friday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. (Central Time)?with the individual competition scheduled for Saturday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m. (Central Time)?in Blake Arena on the campus of Springfield College.
Joining the Eagles from the West Region are UW-Whitewater and Winona State University (Minn.). The teams qualifying from the East Region are Springfield College (Mass.), SUNY-Brockport and SUNY-Cortland. There will also be individuals competing from Ithaca College (N.Y.), Ursinus College (Pa.), Wilson College (Pa.), Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Hamline University (Minn.), UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stout.
The top-10 individuals in the all-around earn NCGA All-America honors while the top-six in the vault, bars, beam and floor earn NCGA First Team All-America awards. The next six individual finishers are selected NCGA Second Team All-America.
The NCGA has conducted championships since 1984, making this the 27th annual meet. UW-L has won the team title 13 times (1986, 1988, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009). The 13 team titles are the most in NCGA history. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) has captured eight championships. The only other teams to win a team title are UW-Oshkosh in 1989 and 2007, Springfield College in 1996, Ithaca College in 1998 and Hamline University in 2000.
Individually, UW-L boasts 26 former national champions. In addition, UW-L student-athletes have earned 170 All-America honors throughout the history of the NCGA.
