Churchill Named to All-WIAC First Team; Frank and Lang Honored

Madison, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse junior forward Dana Churchill of Sheboygan (North) has been named the 2009-10 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) First Team in a vote by the league coaches. Junior center Danielle Frank of Caledonia, Minn. (H.S.) has been selected to the All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team and to the All-WIAC Defensive Team while junior guard Melissa Lang of Greendale (H.S.) has been named to the 2009-10 WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

With Churchill's selection, the Eagles have now had an All-WIAC First Team selection in nine of the last 10 seasons.

Churchill earned her first career all-league honor this season after leading UW-L with 11.8 points per game and ranking second in rebounding (5.8). She had a career-high 20 points in the Eagles' 68-58 victory over Coe College (Iowa) Dec. 16. Churchill scored in double figures in 18 of the last 22 games of the season and in 19 contests overall. She is currently ranked ninth in the conference in scoring and 10th in rebounding.
 
She recorded back-to-back double-doubles Dec. 29-30 at the UW-L Holiday Classic, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-52 victory over Alverno College (Wis.) and 15 points with 16 rebounds in a 66-65 win over the University of Dubuque (Iowa). The 16 rebounds tied a career-high.
 
A starter in all 26 games this season, Churchill shot 77.5% (100-of-129) at the free throw line, which ranks eighth in the WIAC. She was second on the team in assists (50) and third in steals (27).
 
Frank earned her first career All-WIAC recognition after transferring from The College of St. Benedict (Minn.). She averaged 9.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game in 2009-10, leading UW-L and the WIAC in rebounding and blocks. Her 9.7 points ranked fourth on the team. She scored a season-high 17 points in three different games and finished with a season-high 16 rebounds in a 68-51 victory over UW-Platteville Dec. 12.
 
She recorded 13 double-doubles and one triple-double this season. Frank finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks in UW-L's 68-51 win at UW-Oshkosh Feb. 10. She recorded seven consecutive double-doubles to finish the year, averaging 13.7 points and 12.1 rebounds. Frank also averaged 4.7 blocks in the seven games.
 
A starter in all 26 games this season, Frank recorded a team-high 86 blocks in 2009-10. The 86 blocks ranks second in single-season school history. Donna Freese had a school record 88 blocks in 1983-84. Frank shot 56.4% (110-of-195) from the field this year, third in the WIAC, and her 278 blocks in 2009-10 ranks eighth in school history.
 
Lang led UW-L in three-point field goals made (51) and attempted (143) this season while finishing third on the team in scoring with 10.9 points per game. She also tied for third in rebounding with 4.3 per game. Lang, who currently ranks 13th in the WIAC in scoring, had a career-high 27 points in UW-L's 88-80 double overtime victory at UW-Stout Jan. 27, the Eagles' first win in Menomonie since 1992. She scored UW-L's first 15 points of the game and finished with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 
Scoring in double figures in 17 games this season, Lang played in all 26 games with 21 starts. She shot 35.7% from three-point range, which ranks ninth in the WIAC, and was third on the team with 49 assists. Lang set a school record with 51 three-pointers made this year, breaking the record of 50 held by Nicole Palmer in 2005-06. Lang attempted 143 three-pointers in 2009-10, second in single-season school history. Palmer had 149 attempts in 2005-06.

Lang recorded a career-high seven assists in UW-L's 74-64 victory over UW-Superior Jan. 6. She had a season-high nine rebounds in the Eagles' 67-62 win at 18th-ranked UW-River Falls Jan. 13.
 
UW-L finished 18-8 overall this season, its fourth winning season in the last five years. The Eagles' 18 victories are the most since 2005-06 (19-6) and the third-most in the last 26 seasons. UW-L was 10-6 in the WIAC in 2009-10, recording its most conference wins since 1987-88 (12-4).
