Hooper Competes in Vault at NCAA I Regional

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior Gabi Hooper of New Brighton, Minn. (Totino-Grace) tied for 29th on the vault Saturday night in a 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Women's Gymnastics Regional Championship in the University of Utah's Huntsman Center. Hooper scored a 9.775.

Hannah Redmon of Boise State University (Idaho) captured the vault with a score 9.975.

The University of Florida took the Salt Lake City Regional Saturday with a team score of 197.675. The University of Utah was second (196.900) followed by the University of Denver, Colo. (196.175), Boise State (195.950), University of Washington (195.075) and Auburn University, Ala. (194.925).

Florida and Utah receive automatic berths to the national championships in Gainesville, Florida, April 22-24 with its first and second team finishes Saturday.

Hooper is a two-time National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) champion on the vault, winning the title in 2007 and 2008. She also placed second in 2009. Hooper captured the national championship on the floor exercise this season. She is the fifth gymnast in school history to win a school record three individual titles, joining Lisa Kartman, Kim MacKrille, Kari Motz and Nina Schubert. Hooper earned UW-L's first floor exercise championship since Becky McDonnell won back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999.

Earning seven career NCGA All-America honors, Hooper was second on the balance beam in 2008, second on the floor exercise in 2007 and tied for fourth on the floor exercise in 2009.

She holds the school record on the vault with a score of 9.900 against Illinois State University in 2009.

Hooper captured a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles in 2010, winning the vault and tying for first on the floor exercise. She wrapped up her career with six first-place finishes at the conference championships, winning three times in the vault (2007, 2009, 2010) and twice on the floor exercise (2007, 2010). Hooper also won the league crown on the balance beam (2008).
