Healy Earns WIAC Award; Perleberg and May Honored

Madison, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was the recipient of three awards for the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) outdoor track and field season in voting conducted by the league coaches.  Head coach Pat Healy was chosen the Coach of the Year, while Stephanie Perleberg received the Track Performer of the Meet award and Ashton May claimed the Field Performer of the Meet honor.

Healy secured the award for the second straight year and sixth time in his career after directing the Eagles to their fourth consecutive WIAC championship.  He is in his 19th season in charge of the program and is the first individual in WIAC listings to earn the coaching prize in back-to-back seasons.

Perleberg won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the WIAC championship with a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 10:41.90.  She also recorded a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:41.50 and took third in the 5,000-meter run.

May won a pair of titles at the WIAC championship with NCAA Division III provisional qualifying performances.  She earned the long jump with a leap of 18-3 and the triple jump with a mark of 38-9.  May added a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash, fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash and was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay squad.

Did You Know...
UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
