The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team captured the Winona State University Warrior Open Saturday afternoon at Paul Giel Field. The Eagles finished with 162 team points while St. Cloud State University (Minn.) was second with 127 and UW-Whitewater third with 121.5. A total of eight teams competed.

Brian Shonat, Adam Poellinger, Isaac Vazquez, Dave Pergande and Dave Stauder all captured individual titles for UW-L Saturday. Shonat won the 1,500-meter run (3:58.71) while Poellinger took the shot put (51-6 1/4); Vazquez the long jump (22-6 1/2); Pergande the pole vault (16-4 3/4) and Stauder the high jump (6-8 3/4).

UW-L also won the 4x400-meter relay (3:15.13). The Eagles were second in the 4x100-meter relay (41.86)

Other top finishes on the track included Zach Lee placing fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.18) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.92). Pat Bryan was third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.16). Paul Moran finished third in the 1,500-meter run (4:00.93); Bruce Schmitz third in the 800-meter run (1:55.00); Ryan Mendez fourth in the 400-meter dash (50.65); Sean Harrington fifth in the 1,500-meter run (4:06.00) and Eric Smits fifth in the 800-meter run (1:55.27).

In the field events, Jessie Dengsavang placed second in the triple jump (43-9 3/4); Bill Warren was second in the shot put (51-5 3/4) and Brett Davis fifth in the long jump (21-4).

UW-L returns to action Friday, May 7 at the WIAC Outdoor Championships at UW-River Falls.

UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
