Track Teams Set for NCAA III Championships

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the 2010 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday-Saturday, May 27-29. Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio) and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will serve as host of the championships. Events begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday (all times Central) at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium.

Laurel Beck (4x100-meter relay); Kailey Charlton (100-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay); Ashton May (long jump, triple jump, 100-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay); Maggie May (4x100-meter relay); Stephanie Perleberg (3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000-meter run) and Jenna Starck (heptathlon) will represent the women's squad this weekend.
           
The Eagles finished third at last year's outdoor championships in Marietta, Ohio with 48.0 points. Wartburg College (Iowa) won the national crown with 52.0 points and UW-Oshkosh placed second with 50.0. UW-Oshkosh has won the most team outdoor titles with eight. UW-L has won two team titles (1983, 1984).

UW-L has crowned 20 individual or relay national champions.

Aric Hoeschen (400-meter dash, 4x400-meter relay); Josh Jackson (4x100-meter relay); Kellen McCrary (long jump, triple jump); Ryan Mendez (4x400-meter relay); Paul Moran (10,000-meter run); Andy Novak (shot put); Dave Pergande (pole vault); Jared Sitte (4x100-meter relay); Dave Stauder (high jump); Isaac Vazquez (long jump, triple jump, 4x100-meter relay); Bill Warren (shot put); Paul Yerhot (4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay) and Tyson Young (4x400-meter relay) will represent the men's squad this weekend.

UW-L's men's team has won six of the last nine NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The Eagles captured their 11th outdoor national title at the 2007 championships, the most in NCAA Division III history. Lincoln University (Pa.) has claimed seven titles. The Eagles finished fifth at the 2009 national championships in Marietta, Ohio. UW-L finished with 26.0 team points while UW-Oshkosh captured the national title with 46.0 points.

UW-L has won 26 track and field titles in school history (15 indoor, 11 outdoor), more than any other Division III institution. The 15 indoor titles are also the most in Division III history.
