Berea, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team is in second-place after the second day of competition Friday at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championships.  The championships are taking place at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium at Baldwin-Wallace College.

The Eagles have 17.0 team points. North Central College (Ill.) leads the meet with 41.0 points. Concordia University (Wis.) is third (15.0) followed by Rowan University (N.J.) in fourth (14.0) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology fifth (13.0).

UW-Eau Claire is in sixth-place (11.0) while Salisbury University (Md.), Central College (Iowa), Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) and California Lutheran College are tied for seventh (10.0). A total of 43 teams have scored points.

UW-L's Andy Novak and Bill Warren each earned All-America honors in the shot put Friday with Novak placing third (56-4 3/4) and Warren eighth (53-7).

It is Novak's first career All-America award while Warren earned his second. He was seventh in the shot put at the 2009 indoor meet.

"It was great to have senior leadership from Bill (Warren)," said Novak. "All year long he made me do the correct thing so I would get better. And to have the oppirtunity to compete with him a the highest level and both of us succeed was something special."

"When its all said and done I finished on a high note and hopefully passed down my determination and passion to the younger generation so they too can continue on our tradition of excellence," added Warren.

"The shot competition was one of the most exciting competitions I have ever seen," said associate head coach Phil Whitesitt. "Having Bill finish his career with the second best throw of his life and earning another All-American award was a great honor to see. Andy showed up to compete throwing a liftime best and earned his first all American award.  These two guys really pushed each other all year and it really paid off."

Head coach Josh Buchholtz said the competition was a fun one to watch with two Eagles competing. "Having a senior finish his college career on the note that Bill did is something special," said Buchholtz. "After the indoor season, that did not end the way Andy wouldo have liked it to, I had a feeling that he went in to the outdoor season with a little chip on his shoulder. He took that chip off his shoulder and tossed it far enough to take third in the nation today. A great day for a young sophomore and a outgoing senior."

The Eagles' Aric Hoeschen advanced to the final in the 400-meter dash Saturday with a preliminary qualifying time of 48.25 Friday. He recorded the sixth-fastest qualifying time.

Action concludes Saturday.
