Berea, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team is in second-place after the second day of competition Friday at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championships. The championships are taking place at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium at Baldwin-Wallace College.
The Eagles have 16.0 team points. UW-Oshkosh leads the championships with 37.0 points. Moravian College (Pa.) and the University of Chicago (Ill.) are tied for third with 15.0 while Carroll University (Wis.) is fifth with 14.0.
St. Lawrence University (N.Y.) is sixth (13.0 points) followed by Bridgewater College (Va.) in seventh (12.5), UW-Eau Claire and Carleton College (Minn.) tied for eighth (11.0) and Texas Lutheran College 10th (10.5). A total of 47 teams have scored points.
UW-L's Stephanie Perleberg and Jenna Starck earned All-America honors Friday. Perleberg placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:32.64) while Starck was seventh in the heptathlon (4,572 points).
Perleberg picked up her second career NCAA Division III All-America recognition in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after winning the national crown last season.
"Even though it wasn't my best race I was excited to be an All-American again and I was happy to be able to contribute points to my team," said Perleberg.
Starck becomes the fifth student-athlete in school history to earn All-America honors in the heptathlon and first since Shelly Rud placed second in 1993. It is the first career All-America award for Starck.
"Even though this was my first national meet I couldn't have asked for a greater ending to my senior year than to be an All-American and score points for our team," said Starck.
The Eagles' Ashton May and Kailey Charlton failed to advance to Saturday's 100-meter dash final in Friday's preliminaries. May ran 12.19 while Charlton finished with a time of 12.24.
Action concludes Saturday.
