Ahnen and Schultz Earn WIAC Honors

Madison, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse junior shortstop Jenna Ahnen of Sparta (H.S.) and junior pitcher Heather Schultz of Annandale, Minn. (H.S.) have been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Softball Position and Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Ahnen hit .706 (12-of-17) in six games last week. She had five games with multi-hits and scored five runs overall. Ahnen also had three RBI, one double, two walks and two stolen bases.

She went six-for-seven against UW-Whitewater; two-for-four against UW-Superior and four-for-six against UW-Eau Claire. Ahnen had the game-winning hit in UW-L's 7-6 victory over UW-Whitewater April 26.

Schultz went 4-0 with a 1.77 earned run average last week. She recorded a pair of wins over UW-Whitwater April 26 and also earned victories over UW-Superior May 1 and UW-Eau Claire May 2.

She pitched 23.2 innings during the week, allowing 15 hits and six earned runs. Schultz had 18 strikeouts and three walks. She is 19-2 on the season, setting a single-season school record for victories. Schultz has 12 complete games.

UW-L went 6-0 last week to clinch its first WIAC title in school history. The Eagles, 32-6 overall, finished 16-0 in the WIAC this year.

UW-L is the top-seed for the WIAC Tournament and plays sixth-seed UW-River Falls Friday, May 7 at 10 a.m. at UW-Oshkosh.

Did You Know...
UW-L's student-athletes recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.210 in 2010-11, the highest in the WIAC.  The Eagles also had the highest number of student-athletes, 376, posting grade point averages above 3.000.
