Atlanta, Ga. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball squad has been named to the 2009-10 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll. The Eagles compiled a 3.495 team grade point average to rank 10th in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) ranked first in Division III with a 3.616 grade point average.
UW-L finished 18-8 overall in 2009-10 under head coach
Lois Heeren, its fourth winning season in the last five years. The 18 victories are the most since 2005-06 (19-6) and the third-most in the last 26 seasons. The Eagles were 10-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in 2009-10, recording their most conference wins since 1987-88 (12-4).
Grade point averages are calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by each student-athlete on an institution's roster in the given academic terms by the total number of hours earned by the team. The GPAs are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Per a motion passed by the WBCA Board of Directors in 2007, teams making the list of Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll must obtain at least a 3.000 overall GPA.
UW-L was the only WIAC institution to be ranked in this year's WBCA Academic Top-25 Honor Roll.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game as a sport for women and girls. For additional information about the WBCA, please visit
