Gymnastics Team Finishes Third in Academic Standings

UW-L compiled a 3.66 grade point average in 2009-10.
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad finished third in the 2010 National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGA/W) Academic Team Standings. The Eagles compiled a 3.6600 grade point average, ranking third among all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, II and III institutions.
Southern Utah University ranked first with a 3.8923 GPA while Southeast Missouri State University was second at 3.8905. A total of 69 teams were in the academic rankings.
Twelve UW-L student-athletes earned individual recognition from the NACGA/W with a grade point average of 3.50. Senior Gabi Hooper compiled a 3.95 grade point average while majoring in community health education. Freshman Emily Dinse finished with a 3.92 GPA in biology while sophomore Kahlynn Hunt had a 3.91 in political science and senior Kelsey Matula a 3.90 in communication studies.
Freshman Jessica Hermann (3.81; exercise & sport science); sophomore Rachel Budelier (3.79; mathematics); sophomore Jamie Shervey (3.74; exercise & sport science); freshman Jen Anderson (3.66; exercise & sport science); senior Chelsy Luck (3.61; recreation management); freshman Kendra Klein (3.57; nuclear medicine technology); sophomore Jenna Swails (3.52; marketing) and freshman Katrina Schuch (3.50; sport management) all earned academic honors.
The Eagles captured their third consecutive National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) title in 2010. It was also UW-L's NCGA-record 14th championship in school history.
UW-L opens its 2011 season Friday, January 7 at California State University, Sacramento.
