UW-La Crosse 3, UW-Platteville 0
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned its third straight victory with a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-18) win over UW-Platteville Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 11-8 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC while the Pioneers fall to 12-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
UW-Platteville raced out to an 8-4 lead in the first set before UW-L cut the deficit to 8-7. The Pioneers led 13-10, but the Eagles scored the next six points to lead 16-13. UW-Platteville cut the lead to 19-16, but UW-L scored five consecutive points to take a 24-16 advantage.
UW-L led 4-0 in the second set, but UW-Platteville scored three straight points. The Eagles later led 14-11, but the Pioneers tied it at 14-14. UW-L led 21-19 and 23-22, but UW-Platteville scored two straight points after a timeout to take a 24-23 lead. The Eagles then called timeout and scored the final three points to secure the win.
The third set was tied 12-12 before UW-L tallied the next six points to lead 18-12. UW-Platteville could get no closer than five points the rest of the set.
Lauren Probst led UW-L with 11 kills while
Leah Putzier finished with eight and
Kayla Ashland seven. Ashland had no hitting errors in 13 attempts (.538).
Chantel York had 13 assists and
Cassie Raduka 12 as the Eagles hit .171 overall.
Crystal Ziegler had a match-high 18 digs while York recorded 10.
Ashland had five blocks.
Stephanie Kirchner led UW-Platteville with 10 kills while LeeAnn Mizgalski finished with eight kills, no errors in 15 attempts (.533). Allee Yundt recorded 15 assists as the Pioneers hit .055 overall.
Haley Jansen led UW-Platteville with 17 digs with Andrea Larsen finishing with 15. Kirchner had three blocks.
UW-L returns to action Friday, October 5 at the UW-Platteville Invitational. The Eagles face Coe College (Iowa) at 4 p.m. and St. Catherine's University (Minn.) at 8 p.m.
