Ramapo and UW-La Crosse Continue to Lead Championships

La Crosse, Wis. - The second day of action at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships has been completed at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex with Ramapo leading the women's championships and UW-La Crosse leading the men's race. A total of seven events have been completed on each side, including three Friday.

Women's Recap - Day 2

Ramapo College (N.J.) continues to lead after day two with 27.0 team points. The Roadrunners scored all 27 of their points in Thursday's action. Senior Michelle Favre captured the title (13-5 1/4) while freshman Emily Shipley placed fourth (12-3 1/2). Senior Anita Rogers was third (19-7) in the long jump and junior Taylor Furman finished third (148-5) in the discus.

UW-Whitewater is in second-place with 16.0 points after Friday's action while Illinois College is third with 16.0. Washington University (Mo.) and Monmouth College (Ill.) are tied for fourth with 14.5. A total of 36 teams have scored points.

In Friday's action, junior Elizabeth Krug of Hendrix captured the heptathlon with 4,835 points. Senior Theresa Ford of Emory was second with 4,828 points and senior Megan Stringer of Illinois College finished third with 4,822.

Rose-Hulman senior Elizabeth Evans won her third straight title in the high jump (5-10 1/2) Friday, tying a facility record. She becomes the third student-athlete in NCAA Division III history to capture three consecutive high jump crowns, joining Kim Oden from Nebraska Wesleyan and Christyn Schumann from Trinity (Texas). Oden won four straight from 1989-92 while Schumann won three in a row from 2004-06.

WPI had a pair of student-athletes tie for second in Friday's high jump with senior Julie Eagles and sophomore Laura Pumphrey (5-8).

UW-Oshkosh senior Samantha Loew captured the hammer throw (191-0) Friday. It marks the seventh straight year the Titans have secured the national title in the event. Monmouth senior Allison Devor was second (190-10) Friday with Williams junior Amina Avril third (185-7).

In preliminary track action, Buffalo State senior Sasha Henry had the top qualifying time in the 100-meter dash (11.84) while Birmingham-Southern junior Tiarra Goode (11.86) and Lehman junior Tobi Alli (11.99) also captured heats.

Junior Ashante Lillie of Wheaton (Mass.) recored the top qualifying time (55.85) in the 400-meter dash trials. Senior Kaele Leonard of Emory (56.00) and senior Vainayaki Sivaji of Redlands (56.19) won the other two heats.

Johns Hopkins senior Annie Monagle recorded the top time in the 800-meter run preliminaries (2:08.73) with Illinois Wesleyan senior Tara Clemens (2:09.99) and UW-Oshkosh junior Christy Cazzola (2:11.63) captured the other two trials.

In the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, senior Melissa Norville of Illinois College had the top time (13.78) with Little (14.01) and junior Tashina McAllister (14.23) of Wartburg also winning a heat.

Men's Recap - Day 2

UW-La Crosse continues to lead the men's standings after day two with 27.0 points. North Central is second (26.0), UW-Oshkosh third (24.50) and UW-Whitewater fourth (24.0). A total of 34 teams have scored points.

UW-L added one point to its team total Friday as John Cooper placed eighth in the hammer throw (194-4). The Eagles scored 26 points Thursday as Isaac Vazquez won his second straight long jump title (25-4 3/4). Troy Brooks was sixth (24-2 1/4) in the long jump while sophomore Grant Havard placed third in the discus (175-3).  Junior Rob Rohe finished fourth (16-2 3/4) and sophomore Jeffery Hill seventh (15-7) in the pole vault.

In Friday's action, Central sophomore Eric Larson captured the decathlon with 6,969 points. He also won the heptathlon at this year's indoor national championships. Central has won the last three decathlons after Ethan Miller won in 2011 and 2012.

UW-Eau Claire took second and third in this year's decathlon as sophomore Brandon Zarnoth placed second (6,860 points) and senior Bart Mestelle was third (6,714).

Senior Nathan Davis of Heidelberg took the high jump (6-11 1/2) Friday after also winning in the indoor high jump national crown. Senior Zach Heerspink of North Central was second (6-10 1/4) and junior Christian Patterson of Wilmington placed third (6-10 1/4) in the high jump competition Friday.

Defiance senior Tom Postema, who placed second in Thursday's discus, captured the hammer throw (212-2) Friday afternoon. UW-Oshkosh senior Peter Delzer was second (201-8) and Case Western junior Harry Weintraub placed third (201-0).

In preliminary track action Friday, UW-Eau Claire sophomore Thurgood Dennis had the top qualifying time (10.42) in the 100-meter dash while Oneonta senior Sean Bernstein (10.47) and Greenville sophomore Bruce Gray (10.49) also won their heats.

Whittier junior Kevin Curbelo had the top time in the 400-meter dash (47.40) with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps senior Jeff Macdonald (47.97) and Loras junior Josh Goerdt (48.00) also finished first in the trials.

Senior Robert Willett of Birmingham-Southern had the top time in the 800-meter run preliminaries (1:50.31) with senior Luke Vance (1:50.79) of Wheaton (Ill.) and freshman Thomas Feichtinger (1:52.44) of St. John's (Minn.) also won trials.

Coast Guard junior Adam Scalesse had the best 110-meter hurdles time (14.13). WPI sophomore Terrence Gibson (14.31) and Franklin & Marshall junior Nils Michaelis (14.44) won their respective heats.

Final day action begins at 12:35 p.m. (Central) Saturday.
