Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night at Veterans Field. The Eagles improve to 2-5-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers drop to 2-5-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
It is UW-L's first win over UW-Stevens Point since a 2-1 double overtime victory in 2003. It is also the Eagles first home win in school history over the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point was 10-0-2 in the last 12 matches with UW-L entering Wednesday's match. The Pointers now lead the all-time series, 24-3-3.
Megan Gresl scored both goals for UW-L, her second and third of the season. She gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 22:49 with assists from
Laura Sauer and
Mackenzie Pokorny.
Gresl made it 2-0 at 58:27 with an assist from Sauer.
UW-L finished with 11 shots in the match, including six on goal. UW-Stevens Point totaled 21 shots with seven on goal.
The Eagles'
Ashley Tracy recorded the shutout victory with seven saves. The Pointers' Kristen Churkey had three saves. UW-Stevens Point also had one team save.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, September 28 hosting UW-Stout at 4 p.m.
