La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad opened its 2013-14 home schedule with a 182.625 to 166.750 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles scored 45.950 on the vault; 45.775 on the uneven parallel bars; 45.300 on the balance beam and 45.600 on the floor exercise. UW-L set season-highs on the uneven parallel bars and floor exercise.
UW-L's
Kendall Westrich captured the all-around title (35.850) Friday night. She also tied for first (9.350) on the balance beam with teammate
Morgan Shene. Westrich was fifth (9.000) on the uneven parallel bars and sixth (8.900) on the vault.
Along with tying for first on the beam, Shene captured the uneven parallel bars (9.425) and tied for third (9.050) on the floor exercise.
The Eagles'
Sheree Romesburg won the vault (9.400) and floor exercise (9.500).
Kari Willett had four top-six finishes Friday, including tying for second (9.350) on the vault and tying for third (9.050) on the floor exercise. She was also sixth on the balance beam (8.875) and floor exercise (8.600).
UW-L's
Elsa Spitzmueller was second (9.400) on the floor exercise and tied for fourth (8.975) on the balance beam.
Other top finishes Friday included
Nicole Wangler tied for second (9.350) on the vault while
Chelsie Richards and
Rachel Riesterer tied for second (9.150) on the uneven parallel bars.
Ashlee Henfling finished fourth (8.950) on the vault while
Carly Kiesow was fourth (9.050) on the uneven parallel bars.
UW-L returns to action Friday, January 17 at Lindenwood University (Mo.) at 6 p.m.
