La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team defeated Winona State University (Minn.) by a score of 183.975 to 180.175 Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles scored 47.100 on the vault; 43.850 on the uneven parallel bars; 46.300 on the balance beam and 46.725 on the floor exercise.
UW-L's
Sheree Romesburg and
Kari Willett tied for first on the vault (9.550) Friday night. Romesburg also won the floor exercise (9.650) and finished sixth on the balance beam (9.125). Willett took second on the balance beam (9.450) and tied for third on the floor exercise (9.400) with teammate
Ali Berry. Berry also placed fifth (9.400) on the vault.
Other top finishers for the Eagles' included
Rachel Riesterer who placed second on the uneven parallel bars (9.025) and
Morgan Shene who finished second on the floor exercise (9.475). Shene also finished third on the balance beam (9.400) and tied for sixth on the uneven parallel bars (8.800).
Nicole Wangler finished third (9.525) on the vault while
Kendall Westrich was fourth on the balance beam (9.300).
Elsa Spitzmueller placed fifth on the uneven parallel bars (8.875).
Winona State's Danielle Thenell won the uneven parallel bars (9.100) while teammate Brooke Baures captured the balance beam (9.475).
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, January 28 in a dual at UW-Stout at 6 p.m.
