Box Score Kenosha, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 62-41 at Carthage College (Wis.) Saturday afternoon in Tarble Arena. The Eagles drop to 3-2 on the season while the Lady Reds improve to 2-1 in the second-ever meeting between the two teams. The teams were facing each other for the first time since the 1972-73 season.
Carthage (Wis.) started the game on a 9-2 run and extended the lead to 15-4 with 13:01 remaining in the first half. The Lady Reds built the lead to as much as 17 points with 8:00 remaining before a layup by
MaKenzie Miller and a three-point field goal by
Jenna Anderson cut the lead to 27-15 with 7:17 left in the half. The teams traded baskets in the remaining minutes of the half, but an Erin Quinn layup at the buzzer put Carthage (Wis.) up 32-18 at the half.
The lead grew to 24 points with 15:47 remaining in the game as Carthage (Wis.) scored the first 10 points of the second half. The Lady Reds led by as many as 28 at the 7:46 mark of the second half. The Eagles cut the lead to 20 with 4:15 remaining on
Sam Connolly's three-point field goal and free throw by
Michelle Ellis, but could get no closer.
UW-L shot 28.9% from the field, including 26.7% (four-of-15) from three-point range, and 47.8% (11-of-23) at the free-throw line.
Connolly led the Eagles with eight points, all scored in the second half. She also had a team-high three assists.
Maggi Bishop led UW-L with six rebounds, all on the defensive end. Bishop, Miller,
Mikayla Simmons and
Gabbi Clary each scored five points.
Carthage (Wis.) shot 39.3% from the field, including 16.4% (four- of- 24) from three-point range, and 58.8% (10-of-17) at the line.
Taylor Boardman led the Lady Reds with 12 points and Erin Thomas added 11. Boardman had nine rebounds while Allison Riley added eight.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, November 25 at Mitchell Hall hosting 23rd-ranked Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at 5:30 p.m.
