Josh Dedering of
Neenah (H.S.) and
Jacob Peterson of
Nekoosa (H.S.) have been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Dedering has been selected to the Academic All-America® Second Team while Peterson has been named to the Academic All-America® Third Team. It is the second Capital One Academic All-America® honor for Dedering after being selected to the third team in 2013.
Dedering and Peterson were both voted to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® Six Team earlier this month.
A sport management major at UW-L with a 3.77 grade point average, Dedering is a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Scholastic Honor Roll in cross country and track & field and been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team in both sports.
Selected the 2013 WIAC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete, Dedering competed in seven meets during the season. He earned All-WIAC Second Team honors after placing ninth at the league championships and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-Midwest Region accolades with a 30th-place finish. Dedering finished 49th at the 2013 NCAA III Championships. He was 10th at the UW-River Falls Invitational and 15th at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational.
A team captain, Dedering was a member of UW-L's indoor and outdoor track & field team in 2014, competing in the 1,500; 3,000 and 5,000-meters. He captured the 5,000-meter run at the 2014 WIAC Indoor Championships and finished 10th in the 10,000-meter run at the 2014 NCAA III Outdoor Championships.
Peterson is a middle childhood education major at UW-L with a 3.69 grade point average. He competed in seven cross country meets during the 2013 season, placing 40th at the NCAA Division III Championships. He was named to the All-WIAC Second Team with an 11th-place finish at the league championships while also earning NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region honors with a 28th-place finish. Peterson, a team captain, placed 12th at the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews Invitational in 2013 and 16th at the UW-River Falls Invitational.
Named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in cross country and track & field, Peterson was a member of UW-L's indoor and outdoor track & field team in 2014. He finished second in the mile run and ninth in the 3,000-meters at the 2014 WIAC Indoor Championships. Peterson was second in the 1,500-meter run at the WIAC Outdoor Championships. He earned NCAA III All-America honors at this year's outdoor track & field championships with a seventh-place finish in the 1,500-meter run.
Peterson was a member of UW-L's national champion distance medley relay at the 2013 indoor championships.
In order to be eligible for the Academic All-America® program, nominees must: be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials; have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work; have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and completed at least one calendar year at the institution; and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
