Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 1-0 in double overtime to UW-Whitewater Thursday afternoon in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship semifinals presented by Culver's. The Eagles fall to 12-6-2 while the Warhawks improve to 16-4. With the win, UW-Whitewater advances to its sixth WIAC Championship match and will play the winner of Thursday's other semifinal between UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh.
Marie Lesperance scored the winning goal at 103:26 assisted by Morgan Beaty. It was Lesperance's sixth goal of the season.
UWL finished with eight shots Thursday, including two on goal.
Margaret Harings and
Alex Cording each had two shots with one on goal. UW-Whitewater totaled 16 shots with five on goal. Carly Pottle had four shots, including two on goal, while Brianna Reid finished with four shots.
Each team had three shots in the overtime sessions after UW-Whitewater held a 13-5 advantage in regulation. UW-Whitewater totaled eight corner kicks in the match while UWL finished with one. Each team finished with 11 fouls.
Kennedy Brault recorded four saves for the Eagles while Erin Doody registered two for the Warhawks.
Both teams are ranked in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) North Region with UWL sixth and UW-Whitewater seventh. The teams were meeting for the sixth time in the WIAC Championships with UW-Whitewater now leading, 3-2-1.
UWL will await word if its earned an at-large bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Championships. The field will be announced Monday, November 9 at noon (Central).
