Schedule Set for NCAA Division III Midwest Baseball Regional

Copeland Park in La Crosse will host the 2015 NCAA III Midwest Regional.
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team has earned an at-large bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships, the national committee announced Monday.  The Eagles (28-12) are the second-seed in the UW-La Crosse Midwest Regional and will host seventh-seeded The College of St. Scholastica, Minn. (32-11) Wednesday, May 13 at 7:45 p.m. The eight-team regional will be played at Copeland Park in La Crosse and follow a double-elimination format.

UW-La Crosse will be making its fourth appearance in the national tournament, including third in four seasons.  The Eagles went 2-2 in the 1998 regional played at UW-Oshkosh in their first career NCAA Division III Championship.  UW-La Crosse finished 1-2 in 2012 and 0-2 in 2014 with both regionals held at UW-Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater (33-9) is the top-seed for this year's Midwest Regional and faces eighth-seeded Ripon College, Wis. (23-14) at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.  Third-seeded Washington University, Mo. (33-14) plays sixth-seeded Concordia University-Chicago, Ill. (30-13) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday while fourth-seeded Saint John's University, Minn. (26-14) faces fifth-seeded Coe College, Iowa (31-12) in the opening game of the regional at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Tickets are $15.00 per adult and $10.00 per youth/senior/student for an all-session pass.  Tickets are $8.00 per adult and $6.00 per youth/senior/student for one day only.

A total of 56 teams earned bids to the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships.  Six teams will compete at four regional sites and eight teams will compete at four regional locations.  All regionals use a double-elimination format.  Forty conference champions qualified automatically while two Pool B and 14 Pool C at-large bids were awarded. Pool B comprises independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification.  Pool C is reserved for institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not their conference champions and the remaining teams in Pool B.

UW-La Crosse (Pool C), UW-Whitewater (Pool C) and Washington, Mo. (Pool B) earned at-large bids to this year's championships.  Saint John's, Minn. (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference); Coe, Iowa (Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference); Concordia-Chicago, Ill. (Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference); St. Scholastica, Minn. (Upper Midwest Athletic Conference) and Ripon, Wis. (Midwest Conference) secured automatic bids after winning its conference tournaments.

The winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin scheduled for May 22-26.

The seven other regional sites include: Auburn, New York (hosted by Cortland State University); Demorest, Georgia (hosted by Piedmont College); Harwich, Massachusetts (hosted by Eastern College Athletic Conference); Tyler, Texas (hosted by University of Texas-Tyler); Washington, Pennsylvania (hosted by Washington & Jefferson College); Waterloo, Iowa (hosted by Wartburg College) and York, Pennsylvania (hosted by York Revolution/Middle Atlantic Conference).
