Soccer Falls to Sixth-Ranked UW-Whitewater

Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 2-0 to sixth-ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in the Eagles' regular-season home finale.  UWL drops to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-Whitewater improves to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference.  With the win, UWW clinches the WIAC regular-season title. 

It was also Senior Day at UWL as the Eagles honored Kournti Alcock and Nicole Blaser.

The Warhawks, ranked sixth on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top-25 Poll and first in the NSCAA North Region, set a school record with their 16th straight victory Saturday.  

Devon Polk gave UW-Whitewater a 1-0 lead at 6:10, scoring her third goal of the season.  It was unassisted.  The Warhawks took a 2-0 lead at 38:27 with Brianna Reid scoring her 11th goal of the year with Morgan Beaty recording an assist. 

UWL outshot UW-Whitewater, 16-12, in the game, including 8-7 in the first half and 8-5 in the second.  The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's NSCAA Top-25 Poll and ranked fourth in the NSCAA North Region, finishd with six shots on goal Saturday. 

Margaret Harings, Haley Hartkemeyer and Maddie Granos each had three shots in the game with Hartkemeyer recording two shots on goal.  Harings and Granos each had one. 

UW-Whitewater finished with seven shots on goal.  Reid totaled five shots overall with four on goal. 

Kennedy Brault (10-4) recorded five saves for UWL while Sara Klimisch (15-0) and Jennie Novak combined on the shutout for UW-Whitewater with three saves each. Klimisch played the first 32:24 before leaving the game with an injury.  Novak played the final 57:36. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 26 at UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
