UW-La Crosse Falls to Nationally-Ranked UW-Oshkosh

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 61-49 to 18th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles drop to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans improve to 18-4 overall and 8-4 in the conference. UWL and UW-Oshkosh are tied for second in the WIAC with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Whitewater leads the standings with a 10-2 record with two regular-season games remaining. 

UW-Oshkosh is ranked 18th in this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll.

UW-Oshkosh never trailed in Saturday's contest, leading by as many as seven points in the first quarter. The Titans led 17-13 at the end of the first quarter. UW-Oshkosh led 24-15 with 7:28 left in the second quarter when UWL went on a 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 24-23 with 5:11 remaining after a Delaney Schoenenberger three-point field goal. The Titans' Jaimee Pitt followed with back-to-back three-pointers to make it 30-23. UW-Oshkosh led 32-27 at halftime.

Dani Craig's jumper for UWL cut the lead to 32-29 on the first points of the third quarter, but the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the game. The Titans went on a 9-0 run to lead 41-29 with 5:38 remaining and led 45-34 at the end of the third quarter. UW-Oshkosh led by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter.

UWL shot 35.1% from the field, including 23.5% (four-of-17) from three-point range, and 83.3% (five-of-six) at the line. Elise DeNoyer recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds.Craig finished with nine points for the Eagles. 

UWL had its three-game winning streak snapped with Saturday's loss and dropped to 9-2 at home.

UW-Oshkosh shot 47.1% from the field, including 38.% (five-of-13) from three-point range, and 57.1% (eight-of-14) at the line. Isabella Samuels led three players in double figures with 16 points for the Titans while recording a team-high eight rebounds. Eliza Campbell finished with 13 points and five rebounds while Madeline Staples had 10 points. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 14 at UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
