Specialized Exercises: Better known as “corrective exercises” these commonly misunderstood exercises are important to developing balance and sustainability of a sports performance training program. At UW-L, the use of specialized exercises are paramount to decreasing the increase risk of injury that athletes have due to the time, type, and intensity that athletes train and compete at.
Whether, it is an acute injury that is limiting sports performance improvement i.e. a sprained ankle, or a chronic injury presented from months of training i.e. IT Band Syndrome or Plantar Fasciitis, specialized exercises can help to enhance sports performance.
Common specialized exercises revolve around increasing joint mobility and muscle activity or possibly decreasing joint mobility and muscle activity.
